History and Transcripts

DGS keeps a player-facing history of committed presentations and a separate branch-path record that can be used to reconstruct authored text.

DialogueHistory

DialogueHistory connects to a DialogManager, records committed line and choice presentations in its recorded-history store, and drives a DialogueHistoryView. The view supports a bounded pooled list with filtering and reading-position behavior. Its retention policy determines whether entries are scoped to the current conversation or retained across conversations.

Transcript builder

DialogManager.GetLastPlayedDialogTranscript(dialogId) reconstructs authored text from the current graph and the last stored branch-index path for that ID. It is not recorded history: localized and variable-interpolated strings are not preserved, and graph edits can change the result. It returns an empty string when the branch path or graph cannot be resolved.

string transcript = DialogManager.Instance.GetLastPlayedDialogTranscript("intro_guard");
Debug.Log(transcript);
Example reconstructed output:
Guard: Halt. State your business.
Your Choice: I am here to help.
Guard: Then you may enter.

Best practices

  • use DialogueHistory for UI display
  • use transcript reconstruction to review authored flow, not as proof of the exact text shown in a past session
